Position Summary

The Facilities Monitoring and Response Specialist I supports 24/7 monitoring and service of office and laboratory building systems, and responds to critical situations across campus.

Position Key Accountabilities

  • Assists lead personnel with campus-wide systems monitoring using the building automation system (BAS) and performs site visits to check for temperature, noise, water, odor, or visual issues.
  • Trains and assists lead personnel in the proper operation and control of various systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and emergency power systems.
  • Performs troubleshooting, minor repairs, calibration, and adjustments to electronic, pneumatic, and electrical control systems.
  • Responds to FIXT calls, including elevator malfunctions, fire alarms, and UTPD calls after normal operating hours.
  • Conducts or assists in air and water balancing tasks and chemical testing of water softeners and RO systems.
  • Manages preventative maintenance projects as directed.

Required Certifications and Skills

  • Basic knowledge of water delivery systems, pressure systems, boilers, heating/ventilation/air conditioning systems, electrical control panels, computerized control panels, fire and safety equipment, and refrigeration systems.
  • Basic PC skills.
  • Third Grade Stationary Engineer License by Houston Permitting Center required.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of job-related experience required.

Physical Requirements

  • Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive

This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code 51.215 and Texas Government Code 411.094. Personnel in this position may be required to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code 117.001(2).

Residency Requirement

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
