About the role
Performs responsible protective service work maintaining security at the city recreational facilities; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.
Responsibilities
- Enforces established rules and regulations.
- Provides security for building, personnel and patrons which includes protecting materials and documents against illegal acts or damage.
- Monitors activities for improper conduct of users, disturbances and congregation of customers, destruction of property and improper use of materials and equipment.
- Monitors facilities for the safety of the City facilities.
- Patrols area on foot in order to detect unauthorized activities, inside the facilities, at meetings and other events.
- Confronts unauthorized and/or undesirable persons and follows procedure as required.
- Responds to complaints from customers and staff.
- Locks and unlocks doors as needed; ensures that lights are turned on and off and that doors and gates are open or locked as necessary.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years of related experience required; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Some knowledge of practices concerning the protection of buildings and grounds.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to recognize and identify activities or situations which have or may become a problem or emergency requiring immediate attention.
- Ability to think and act quickly, effectively, and responsibly under emergency situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
- Good listening skills.
- Communicates well with others.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Required to use written and oral communication skills.
- Read and interpret data, information, and documents.
- Work under deadlines with constant interruptions.
Work Environment
The work involves inside and outside work and is exposed to all weather conditions.
