Facilities Mechanic
About the Role
Performs maintenance and repair of the facility’s structure, equipment, and grounds with a heavy focus on commercial carpentry. Work may include plumbing, electrical, HVAC, locksmithing, and painting. Collaborates with manufacturing or process engineering for installation or repair of building plumbing and wiring. Conducts periodic or special inspections to determine necessary repair work and works from blueprints, drawings, or rough sketches.
With two locations totaling approximately 374,000 square feet in Wayne and Totowa, NJ, the selected individual will report to the Supervisor of Facilities and work alongside a team of skilled tradespersons maintaining building systems across various space types, including engineering and environmental labs, manufacturing floors, office space, and electrical and mechanical rooms. This role supports a growing team of Plant Engineering professionals responsible for:
- Facilities operations and maintenance of core building systems

Responsibilities
- Installs and maintains a wide variety of pumps, blowers, motors, and other mechanical equipment, including HVAC systems.
- Assembles and repairs mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.
- Performs carpentry, plumbing, and light electrical work.
- Executes routine preventive maintenance to ensure building systems run effectively and efficiently.
- Works from written or verbal instructions, blueprints, equipment drawings, schematics, manufacturers' specifications, and literature.
- Plans complex jobs, selects materials, and ensures proper completion.
- Performs work according to standard procedures and building operational schedules.
- Utilizes a computerized preventive maintenance schedule and logs work performed, including dates, problems, replacements, or repairs.
- Repairs or replaces defective equipment parts using hand and power tools.
- May clean and service equipment containing hazardous substances and participate in hazardous waste management per regulations.
- Operates a forklift to move materials and equipment.
- Participates in special teams, such as snow removal and emergency response, and must be available for off-hour emergencies.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
Requirements
- High School or Trade School diploma or equivalent.
- At least three (3) years of general maintenance experience.
- Ability to walk, bend, stoop, balance, crawl, and reach for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift 35+ pounds.
- Comfortable working at heights, indoors and outdoors, in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of Maximo or other CMMS software and MS Office suites.
- Ability to acquire a government clearance.
- Strong background in commercial carpentry with working knowledge of:
- Suspended ceiling system installation and repair
- Framing and finishing walls (sheetrock, tape, joint compound, and paint)
- Framing and installation of commercial doors and associated hardware (locksmithing)
- Modular cubicle/furniture systems
- Commercial flooring systems installation and repair
Pay
Full-Time Salary Range: $62,530 – $100,048. Individual salaries are determined by factors including business considerations, local market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications such as skills, education, and experience.
