Responsibilities

The Facilities Maintenance Technician IV performs tasks involving operating heavy equipment and construction labor at building and other farm projects. Specific duties include:

  • Operating backhoe, track hoe, forklifts, and loaders
  • Cleaning construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
  • Mowing lawns and maintaining sites for tours
  • Building and positioning forms for pouring concrete and dismantling forms after use
  • Digging ditches and leveling earth to grade specifications
  • Positioning, joining, aligning, and sealing structural components
  • Applying caulking compounds to seal crevices
  • Smoothing and finishing freshly poured cement or concrete
  • Shaping or cutting materials to specified measurements
  • Assembling and fastening materials using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue
  • Building or repairing cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, and other wooden fixtures
  • Installing structures and fixtures, such as windows, frames, floorings, and trim, or hardware
  • Finishing surfaces of woodworking or wallboard in houses and buildings
  • Removing damaged or defective parts or sections of structure and repairing or replacing
  • Measuring and marking cutting lines on materials
  • Inspecting ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures
  • Painting surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, or rollers
  • Cutting stencils, and brushing and spraying lettering and decorations on surfaces
  • Smoothing surfaces, using sandpaper, scrapers, brushes, steel wool, or sanding machine
  • Mixing and matching colors of paint, stain, or varnish
  • Filling cracks, holes, and joints with caulk putty, plaster, or other filler
  • Erecting scaffolding or setting up ladders to work above ground level
  • Reading work orders or receiving instructions from supervisors or homeowners
  • Cleaning and lubricating shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery
  • Assembling, installing, and/or repairing plumbing
  • Operating cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts
  • Fabricating and repairing counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures
  • Complying with all safety policies, practices, and procedures
  • Reporting all unsafe activities to the Shop Manager
  • Participating in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
  • Providing leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge and skills
  • Maintaining cleanliness of the Paterson Farm facilities

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in handling and working around chemicals
  • 6 months of related experience preferred but not required
  • Customer service orientation
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, twist, and turn frequently
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment with varying temperatures, loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, slippery conditions, dirt, fumes, smoke, smells, and allergies
  • Ability to sit and turn back for long periods of time as well as do other movements required for job actions and procedures
  • Manual dexterity, overall coordination, and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places
  • Specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Qualifications

No specific educational certifications are required, but the ideal candidate will have a strong drive for results and a desire to help the company bring the world together through its products.

Skills

The ideal candidate will have skills in operating heavy equipment, construction labor, and maintenance. They will also have excellent customer service skills and be able to work in a team environment.

Pay

A reasonable hourly estimate for this role is $26.00.
