About the Role

The Facilities Maintenance Mechanic performs a wide range of skilled preventive and general maintenance, repair, construction, and renovation work on Housing facilities and systems under general supervision. The role involves independent, journey-level trade work, particularly in electro-mechanical trades.

Responsibilities

  • Replaces, repairs, and removes apartment light fixtures, diffusers, ballasts, GFI outlets, voice and data jacks, lines and terminals, fan motors, switches, and receptacles.
  • Replaces complete heating and air conditioning single units in the University Village apartments.
  • Performs routine mechanical maintenance and preventative maintenance service on HVAC equipment.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of all safety rules and regulations; reports safety hazards or unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel.
  • Replaces and repairs electronic door card readers, including installation of hardware and battery replacement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Four years of increasingly responsible experience leading to journey-level skills in a mechanical or facilities/building trade, or any equivalent combination of training and experience as a facilities and systems mechanic demonstrating journey-level skills equivalent to those acquired through completion of an applicable apprenticeship program.
  • California Driver’s License is preferred.

Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in skilled trade areas, with working knowledge in related trade areas pertaining to facilities, systems, construction, and renovation.
  • Journey-level skill in one trade and strong skills in other applicable trades, including cabinetry/woodworking or electrical work.
  • Knowledge of Cal OSHA safety requirements and applicable building and safety codes.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications; make rough sketches; and estimate cost, time, and materials.
  • Ability to maintain records, retrieve data, prepare reports, and provide instruction to unskilled or semi-skilled assistants.
  • Ability to analyze and respond to emergency situations, read and write at a level appropriate to the position, and perform arithmetic calculations as required.
  • Working knowledge of computerized maintenance and building automation systems.

Pay

The anticipated hiring range is $5,355 – $6,400 per month, dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is $5,355 – $7,801 per month.

Schedule

Full-time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday. May include evenings and weekends. This is a regular position with a one-year probationary period.
