About the role
The Facilities Engineering Manager oversees and drives programs for refrigeration, steam and air system utilities for company manufacturing and distribution center facilities. This role leads utility planning and execution of new facility builds and building additions, ensuring the integrity and performance optimization of existing facilities.
Responsibilities
- In coordination with internal and external subject matter experts, ensure the successful design and execution of new facility construction project deliverables re: utility systems—including compressed air, natural gas, HVAC, steam, etc.
- Assist in design, build, and maintenance standards for building envelope systems related to these areas.
- Ensure reliability, efficiency, and compliance with safety and sustainability standards.
- Establish and enforce engineering standards for all US plant utility systems— including refrigeration, air, and steam systems.
- Maintain consistency with adherence to all applicable building codes, environmental regulations, and safety requirements at local, state, and federal levels.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance and reliability programs to ensure durability, energy efficiency, optimal cost-of-ownership, and structural integrity.
- Regularly monitor utility performance, identify potential risks, and take proactive corrective actions to maintain uninterrupted service and optimize lifecycle costs.
- Set targets to achieve reductions in energy consumption and facility lifecycle costs year-over-year through design, maintenance, and reliability improvements.
- Work with peers, develop and execute projects and programs to achieve those targets.
- Help develop, oversee and manage capital and operational budgets for facility projects and maintenance programs associated with steam, refrigeration and air programs.
- Provide daily leadership and technical guidance to a team of engineers, ensuring clear priorities and accountability for deliverables.
- Mentor team members to enhance technical skills and professional growth, while fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure proper operation of steam, air, and refrigeration equipment, training team members towards relevant certifications.
- Drive annual development plans for direct reports.
- Offer cross-disciplinary guidance to strengthen organizational engineering capabilities.
- Oversee vendor relationships and negotiate contracts for utility systems and maintenance services.
- Create and maintain vendor scorecards and set targets for compliance to quality and delivery standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Industrial, or related field) required or equivalent experience.
- Masters/MBA in Engineering preferred.
- 10+ years experience Facilities engineering, managing refrigeration, air, and steam systems.
- 4+ years of proven track record of leading large-scale facility projects from concept to completion is preferred.
- RETA (Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association) certification preferred.
- Proven ability to lead and coach teams, driving performance and engagement.
- Experienced in talent development and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Skilled in conflict resolution and maintaining collaborative, high-performing teams.
- Strategic planning and execution, with advanced communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Proven ability to manage projects across scope and budget.
- Knowledge of utility systems management and maintenance, across refrigeration, air, and steam systems.
- Advanced skills in preventive maintenance planning, engineering standards development, and vendor/contract management, with strong regulatory compliance knowledge.
- Working knowledge of energy efficiency principles and CAD/BIM tools.
- Familiarity with building codes, safety standards, and sustainability principles.
- 20%-40% travel based off project needs.
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license, auto insurance (at least state minimum- more might be required), acceptable driving record per Schreiber Foods discretion, and vehicle that will ensure applicant can meet the travel necessities of the position are required.
- Schreiber requires that an employee have authorization to work in the country in which the role is based.
