About the role

In this position, you will provide leadership to plan, scope, coordinate, and control complex projects involving multiple disciplines for Optical Fiber and Cable manufacturing processes worldwide. You will solve state-of-the-art manufacturing problems using sophisticated engineering approaches, computational procedures, and broad engineering and scientific knowledge. You will act as the principal lead on one or more projects and provide technical leadership on facilities projects.

Responsibilities

  • Principal lead on one or more projects, proposing, planning (scoping), and implementing projects requiring engineering analysis and modeling.
  • Define the scope, financial impact, key activities, and method of evaluation on projects.
  • Monitor and control the technical, cost, and time objectives of projects; re-allocate funds and personnel as needed.
  • Initiate and implement major process improvement projects leading to improved understanding, significant cost reduction, or quality improvement.
  • Develop staffing requirements for projects and ensure coordination, interaction, and effective resource utilization of appropriate groups.
  • Direct the activities of other engineering personnel assigned to projects.
  • Provide technical leadership on Facilities Process systems and act as a division consultant on problems involving delivery and integration of process services worldwide for Optical Fiber and Cables locations.
  • Maintain knowledge of current work inside and outside Corning in optical fiber and cables.
  • Effectively communicate plans, progress, and problems to all concerned parties and document results.
  • Train other engineering personnel in project engineering, modeling, and engineering analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering or similar.
  • 5+ years of field engineering experience.
  • Travel requirement: 25-50%, including international travel based on project work.

    • Demonstrated project management skills.
    • Exceptional time management and organization skills.
    • Ability to take projects from conception to commissioning, balancing several at a time.
    • Experience working with suppliers, contractors, and technical staff.
    • Skilled at reading and interpreting drawings and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
    • Ability to identify potential problems and offer corrective or preventative actions.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Demonstrated ability to secure cooperative and effective performance from associates.
    • Commitment to maintaining and valuing diversity and quality of personnel.
    • Deep appreciation for safety aspects of Process Services design and implementation.
    • Self-starter, able to work alone or in teams equally well.
    • Ability to build relationships within cross-functional groups; strong team-building skills.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to manage large external teams of contractors/sub-contractors to achieve project objectives.

Pay

The range for this position is $93,470.00 - $128,522.00 assuming full-time status. Starting pay depends on geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
