Facilities Assistant Manager
About the role
The Facilities Assistant Manager supports the Facilities Manager in overseeing the facility’s daily preventative/corrective maintenance while prioritizing a safe work environment. They ensure the proper operation of all company-owned assets such as material handling equipment, automated conveyors, packaging equipment, HVAC units, lighting & electrical systems, plumbing and general maintenance of shared office areas, including any capital improvements. The role maintains an understanding of operational protocols to enhance the efficiency of the DC and helps the Facilities Manager problem-solve challenges presented by employees and members of the leadership team. They also help oversee the general cleanliness and sanitation of the facility via a custodial team.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the management and training of facilities/maintenance employees to fulfill department needs across all shifts, including preventative and corrective maintenance, cleaning and sanitation, and general capital improvements.
- Provide guidance and recommendations to building management regarding updates or changes to increase operational efficiency or effectiveness.
- Ensure team members are properly trained and follow all safety guidelines, including Lock Out/Tag Out procedures and Arc Flash requirements.
- Manage facilities and maintenance budgets to achieve financial goals.
- Collaborate with operations to schedule critical equipment downtime for maintenance while maintaining efficient system flow to meet customer demand and operational metrics.
- Maintain the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for time/meter-based preventative maintenance checklists and corrective actions on all building equipment and assets.
- Maintain spare parts inventory via the CMMS, keeping accurate counts to reduce downtime and assist in cost analysis.
- Coordinate response to emergency maintenance requests as required.
- Facilitate the repair and maintenance of conveyor belts/automation to a high degree of excellence across all shifts.
- Obtain estimates for supplies, equipment, and materials necessary to complete projects.
- Provide general building maintenance and repair, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and carpentry.
- Supervise replacement and addition of warehouse pallet racking, ensuring proper anchoring and adherence to safety measures.
- Complete weekly, quarterly, and annual tests on fire suppression and related monitoring equipment.
- Organize the repair of items under warranty from the manufacturer.
- Ensure timely completion of employee performance reviews and provide frequent, constructive feedback in accordance with company philosophy.
- Interact regularly with employees to promote engagement and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Promptly complete all administrative duties relating to employee management.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to meet the needs of the DC and foster a team mentality.
- Work with the Facilities Manager and Team Leads to create development plans for employees to maintain engagement and develop a leadership bench.
- Maintain a high level of integrity and honesty, modeling company core values for employees.
- Hold peers, managers, and employees accountable to expectations across the distribution center.
Physical Requirements
- Work is performed while standing and/or walking, up to and including 12 hours/day.
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
- Requires regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
- Requires regular bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
- Requires the ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 75 lbs.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a distribution center maintenance/facilities environment.
- Forklift certification preferred.
- Electrical/mechanical engineering knowledge including a strong background in electrical troubleshooting and maintaining industrial equipment.
- Knowledge of trades related to building maintenance and repair, including HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, electricity, and use of power tools, reading schematics, blueprints, and instructions.
Education
This role does not require a degree. Relevant skills and experience and alignment with company core values are valued above all else.
