About the Role

This position functions as the main point of contact for all state and local testing activities in the school. The incumbent will be responsible for abiding by all federal, state, local, and professional standards and rules in administering and coordinating test activities in the school. While the role reports to the school principal, it is also responsible to the office of accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to the district testing plan and test administration schedules established by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and the school system test coordinator.
  • Cooperates with district or state officials in the event of an audit or monitoring visit to ensure the testing plans are implemented appropriately.
  • Attends training sessions sponsored by the school system test coordinator on the policies and procedures for conducting a proper test administration and for reviewing and processing test materials.
  • Develops and documents in writing a school-wide testing plan for administering tests under secure conditions, including accommodations for eligible students.
  • Accounts for and maintains the security of test materials, storing them in a secure (locked) facility with limited access.
  • Accurately counts and distributes test materials before each test administration and returns them to secure storage immediately afterward.
  • Selects test administrators who are school system or school personnel with professional training in education and the North Carolina Testing program.
  • Trains all school personnel on the appropriate use of test materials, test security, and the North Carolina Testing Code of Ethics, including guidelines for testing students with disabilities and limited English proficiency.
  • Emphasizes that no person may copy, reproduce, or paraphrase test materials without written permission from NCDPI.
  • Informs personnel to immediately report any breach of security, loss of test materials, or deviations from required procedures to the principal/school test coordinator and school system test coordinator.
  • Implements CMS's testing policies and procedures and establishes school policies to ensure all eligible students are tested.
  • Encourages a positive atmosphere for test administrations and assigns trained proctors (adult community volunteers, school staff, or system staff).
  • Distributes test materials immediately prior to administration unless otherwise authorized by NCDPI.
  • Returns all test materials to the school system test coordinator as directed following test completion.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of individual student scores when reporting results to the public and media.
  • Prohibits reclassifying students or assigning failing grades solely to avoid state assessments.
  • Uses the Online Testing Irregularity Submission System (OTISS) to report testing irregularities within five days of occurrence.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Education or other related field.
  • Three years of successful classroom experience or school support experience.
  • Secondary School Licensure or Student Services Licensure required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a content area.
  • Experience in leading professional development activities.
