FabVille Lab Assistant
About the role
The City of Somerville is seeking candidates (students, 16+ years of age) for the position of FabVille Lab Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year. FabVille's Lab Assistants are responsible for assisting the Lab Manager and Instructors with day-to-day operations at the City of Somerville’s fabrication lab, "FabVille", located in Somerville High School.
Responsibilities
- Manage the Google Voice phone number to field questions and help visitors access the space
- Track space usage by having new and returning members sign in
- Aid members during open shop, classes and events, and help with setup and cleanup
- Aid with posting on website and social media
- Respond to email inquiries about FabVille
- Aid Lab Manager with preparing reports
- Additional responsibilities dependent upon interest and past experience
Requirements
If presented with a job offer, you will be required to obtain a youth work permit and provide proof of permission to work in the U.S. Preference will be given to Somerville High School students.
Qualifications
- Preference given to Somerville High School students
- Anticipated regular hours of operation: Tuesdays: 5-9PM Wednesdays: 4-9PM Thursdays: 4-9PM (with some classes and events scheduled on Monday and Friday evenings)
Skills
None specifically listed, but strong communication and organizational skills are preferred.
Benefits
4 weeks annual vacation for non-union positions. Union positions vary by contract.
