About the Role
A Fabricator-Welder cuts, joins, and shapes raw metal into specific products, parts, or structural components. This role involves interpreting blueprints, using welding techniques (like MIG, TIG, and Stick), and operating fabrication machinery to assemble and finish metal pieces.
Responsibilities
- Assemble projects from start to finish, including cutting, grinding, and welding.
- Interpret technical drawings and schematics to understand project requirements.
- Measure, mark, cut, and shape raw metal stock using saws and plasma cutters.
- Assemble and clamp parts in the correct orientation before permanent joining.
- Join prepared components using TIG, MIG, or Stick welding in accordance with engineering and code specifications.
- Inspect, grind, and test welds to ensure they meet structural tolerances and visual standards.
- Follow strict OSHA safety guidelines, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain equipment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- AWS certifications (e.g., D1.1 for structural steel) available in-house.
- Entry-level machining ability, including drilling and lathes.
- 1-year hands-on experience in metal fabrication.
- Torch cutting and plasma experience.
- Strong shop math and proficiency with hand and power tools.
- Ability to lift heavy materials and stand or crouch for extended periods.
- Valid driver's license.
