Fabricator

About the Role

This role focuses on pre-fabrication tasks including cutting, drilling, coping, and rolling operations for piping, tubing, flex, and spiral wrap materials, as well as material kitting to manufacture vacuum jacketed pipes and flex hoses into finished products while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Uses hand tools, table saws, band saws, and hydraulic presses to prepare pipe for welding.
• Cuts pipes to various angles (miter, cope, fish mouth, hole punches) ensuring tight tolerance fit.
• Receives, issues, stores, and inspects material and parts to fulfill production orders.
• Kits pre-fabricated material and inventory items in preparation for welding.
• Examines pipe and/or hoses and parts to ensure correctness in size, material, and machining; consults Supervisor or Leader on questionable issues.
• Ensures assembly parts are available; picks up and delivers kitted parts to designated work areas.
• Delivers order cards to the appropriate planner as noted on the card.
• Uses computer systems to track inventory availability and close work orders.
• Assembles parts in established sequences to ensure quality of fit and operation.
• Coordinates paperwork to record test results for documentation accompanying shipments.
• Reads and interprets engineering drawings and BOMs to ensure proper cuts and material usage.
• Trims parts and pipe/hose linings to ensure proper fit; adjusts parts as needed.
• Sets up and performs special testing based on routing sheet specifications.
• Exercises judgment on product quality regarding casting, machining, and fit.
• Assists in packaging finished goods into appropriate shipping containers.
• Verifies and records heat numbers and material markings for various customers.
• Advises coworkers and Team Leader of special customer requirements (e.g., special paint).
• Uses hand tools to blend materials for proper fit.
• Participates in Operational Excellence and Quality processes, including problem-solving and recommending improvements.
• Completes RTY data recordings for quality and process issues.
• Completes daily, weekly, and monthly 5S requirements.
• Maintains safety as a priority and reports safety issues or incidents.
• Performs QAD transactions to transfer and back-flush material for accurate inventory tracking.
• Performs other work as assigned by Supervisor or Team Leader.

Requirements

• Skill in the care and use of hand and pneumatic tools and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and bills of material (BOM).
• Ability to work from verbal and written instructions, drawings, diagrams, and routing sheets.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating ingenuity and judgment.
• Product knowledge sufficient to perform responsibilities with little supervision.
• High degree of physical and mental dexterity and visual attention for sustained periods.
• Ability to detect defects in products and exercise independent judgment on repair capability.
• Experience with cutting equipment such as chop saws, circular saws, band saws, or cutting wheels.
• Working knowledge of shop mathematics.
• Previous welding experience or supporting welding functions is a plus.
• Ability to use measurement devices (e.g., rulers, measuring tapes, calipers, micrometers).
• Ability to sustain moderate physical effort, including lifting, bending, twisting, carrying, pushing, and pulling light to medium-weight materials.
• Concentrated mental and visual attention to work with close tolerances.
• High school education or equivalent.
