Fabricator

About the Role

This position focuses on building, repairing, and modifying one-of-a-kind equipment and parts. The fabricator will operate metal machining tools and support operations at Alphia’s headquarters in Ogden, Utah, as well as 7 plants across the U.S. Travel to other plants may be required (10% - 20%).

Responsibilities

• Form and fabricate parts and components from graphic, written, or verbal directions.
• Use machine tools, electric equipment, and instruments to work with various metals and materials within prescribed tolerances.
• Operate press brake, shear, grinders, iron worker, drills, band saw, rolls, plasma table, and other machines.
• Perform all welding processes (MIG, TIG, arc) proficiently.
• Execute layout and assembly tasks.
• Convert drawings, sketches, and ideas into finished products.
• Understand and follow work instructions in English.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years of formal fabrication vocational training or 5+ years of applicable experience in metal fabrication (sheet metal through ½ inch).

Desired Skills & Experience

• Experience making or repairing parts and equipment used in food manufacturing, including:
  • Packaging equipment (baggers, scales, palletizers, conveyors).
  • Processing equipment (extruders, driers, grinders, scales, pneumatic conveying, pumps).
• Experience rebuilding mechanical components (pumps, gear boxes, shafts, conveyors).
• Experience with layout and installation of equipment or structures in an industrial environment.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other CAD software (beneficial).
• Strong communication skills:

• Problem-solving abilities:

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to talk, hear, walk, and move from place to place.
• Occasionally required to sit, use foot/feet to operate machines, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or reach above shoulders.
• Frequently required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or touch.
• Must exert:
  • 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally.
  • 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently.
  • 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Support a 24/7 schedule-driven environment with a customer service orientation to plant operations.
• Pre-employment background, drug, and skills testing required.
• Adherence to Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices, including the use of appropriate safety equipment.
• May require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, and walking plant floors (up to one mile per day).
• Frequent exposure to allergens and/or airborne particles in the production area.
• Exposure to temperatures ranging from 50 to 115 degrees, depending on season and workstation.
• May work near moving mechanical parts; occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
• Noise levels may be loud while production equipment is running.
• Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required, including boots, gloves, safety glasses, face shields, earplugs, and bump caps in the production area.
