About the role
The Opportunity We are actively seeking a production fabricator for the manufacturing floor to Fabricate, lay out, position, align, and fit parts of structural metal products.
Responsibilities
- Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using fixtures, welding torches, and hand tools.
- Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
- Tack-weld fitted parts together.
- Lay out and examine metal stock or work pieces to be processed in order to ensure that specifications are met.
- Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
- Locate and mark work piece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.
- Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.
- Move parts into position, manually or by using hoists or cranes.
- Set up and operate fabricating machines such as brakes, rollers, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components.
- Hammer, chip, and grind work pieces in order to cut, bend, and straighten metal. Hammer out bulges or bends in metal work pieces.
- Design and construct templates and fixtures, using hand tools.
- Straighten warped or bent parts, using sledges, hand torches, straightening presses.
- Mark reference points onto floors or face blocks and transpose them to work pieces, using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and soapstone.
- Set up face blocks, jigs, and fixtures.
- Remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and plasma torches.
- Direct welders to build up low spots or short pieces with weld.
- Lift or move materials and finished products, using cranes and fork trucks.
- Erect ladders and scaffolding to fit together large assemblies.
- Cut metal plates and structural shapes to dimensions and contour and bevel as specified by blueprints, layouts, work orders and templates, using powered saws, shears or flame tables.
- Operate metal shaping, straightening and bending machines such as brakes and shears.
- Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
- Establish work procedures for fabricating new structural products, using a variety of metal working machines.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma
- One to two years related experience preferred
- Valid Driver’s License
- Computer literate
- Microsoft Office
