About the role
A Fabricator will be trained or assist on one or more of the following machines or work centers: cutoff saws, CNC and standard shears and brakes, rollers, presses, forming machines, CNC and standard Whitney punching machines, and CNC plasma & punch machines, belt, bench, and hand-held grinders that cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures.
Responsibilities
- Operates machines or works in work centers with supervision, with safety as a top priority.
- Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
- Assists in one- or two-person operations across different work centers as needed.
- Observes machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction.
- Measures workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation.
- Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from workpiece.
- Stacks, marks, packs, and transports finished workpieces.
- Properly uses barcode system to reflect time charged to jobs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Skills
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
