Fabrication Material Handler

This role supports Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, focusing on Spirit’s Commercial Business Units. Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including fuselages, pylons, nacelles, and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.

About the role

Perform a wide variety of material support activities that assure the timely delivery of high-quality products to the customer. Tasks include product conveyance, multitasking, operation of material handling equipment, material support machinery, and clerical or record activities involving material flow of all goods and parts.

Responsibilities

• Perform all tasks involved in receiving, locating, issuing, kitting, preparation, and movement of materials (raw materials, tools/tooling, parts, drawings, equipment/supplies, surplus property, and hazardous materials) to facilitate production or support functions, including maintaining Inventory Record Accuracy.
• Use power or hand-operated tools and equipment; check hardware and tools for visible damage; route broken, worn, or obsolete hardware and tools for disposition.
• Open containers, identify weight and count of contents, and verify quality of incoming hardware.
• Operate information systems required to perform assigned tasks.
• Utilize proper equipment and devices to protect parts, equipment, and structures.
• Load and unload air cargo as required.
• Inspect material handling equipment before and after operation; perform routine maintenance (e.g., topping off fluids, checking/adjusting tire pressure).
• Report major malfunctions and unsafe equipment; refuel equipment as needed.
• Verify part numbers, part count, and similar information of in-process material.
• Communicate effectively with management, support functions, employees, vendors, and shipping personnel.
• Train other employees in the same job classification as requested or required.
• Perform tasks associated with kitting paints, lubricants, adhesives, solvents, or other materials/chemicals using weight scales, sight-lines, or solvent bottle filling machines.
• Order, receive, kit, maintain records, store, check, issue, inventory, ship, and release all goods.
• Perform recording, posting, filing, coordinating changes, gathering and furnishing information, releasing, and routing orders.
• Produce and maintain visibility; inspect and clear tool boxes; issue hold-out notices as required.
• Dress tool grinder wheels, cut off drills and reamers, etc., as needed.
• Build containers, package goods, and prepare container overpacks with associated documentation and system updates.
• Ensure proper handling and packaging of hazardous materials per domestic and international regulations.
• Operate equipment to prepare parts/material for appropriate disposition.
• Cut, seal, tag, measure, wrap, stencil, tape, and label material as required.
• Set up and operate box-making machines to fabricate standard and nonstandard boxes.
• Stamp boxes and store as required.
• Operate motive power vehicles (e.g., rider/stacker) to move, position, and stage parts, equipment, tools, and material.

Requirements

• Must be willing and able to work any shift (training on 1st shift, then moving to 2nd shift).
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Basic math skills.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Preferred: 3 years of warehousing experience.
• Preferred: 2–5 years of forklift experience.

This is a union-represented position. Advancement to any level is subject to management determination of need and employee meeting qualification criteria.

Pay

• Starting pay: $21.39/hour.
• Potential to earn up to $35.50/hour in accordance with the relevant collective bargaining agreement.
• Eligible for a $5,000 Kansas Aviation tax credit for up to five years.

Pay is based on candidate experience, qualifications, market, and business considerations.
