Fabric Worker.

Responsibilities

• Utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems to prepare and generate cutting markers for automated cutting systems, performing custom modifications to digital and hard standard patterns to produce Made-to-Measure garments.
• Perform final fitting of all garments.
• Cut replacement components for garments damaged in manufacturing or found to have defects, damages, or mill flaws in fabric weave or knit.
• Accurately match fabric type, color, and shade of components re-cut to match the original garment.
• Mark stock garments with dimensional alterations necessary to properly fit the Cadet within fit requirements.
• Perform set-up of industrial fusing systems to apply fusible materials onto a variety of fabrics.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed Tier 1 background investigation.
• Incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and annual examinations thereafter to ensure continued physical health and ability to perform the duties.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless previously met as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary, the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Fabric Worker without more than normal supervision, including:

• Marking garments for adjustment.
• Operating standard equipment under instruction.
• Inspecting cut pieces for accuracy.
• Preparing components for finishing.

To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best-qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.

Physical Effort

• Stand at work tables to measure, mark, label, and cut materials for long periods.
• Continually use eyes, arms, hands, and fingers for using tools such as spreading machines, shears, and power cutters.
• Often stoop and bend.
• Handle rolls of material or garment pieces that weigh 25-120 pounds.

Working Conditions

• Shop is adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated.
• Subject to cuts, punctures, scratches, and other irritations from handling sharp tools.
• Subject to allergies from dyes, dust, and lint from fabrics.
