About the role

The position is open to permanent employees in the Fish and Wildlife Program at the Department of Environmental Protection, located at 220 Blue Anchor Road, Sicklerville, NJ 08081.

Responsibilities

  • Cook up and oversee NJDEP Fish & Wildlife’s Hunter Education program and supervise associated staff.
  • Oversee the National Archery in the Schools program and Recruitment, Retention and Reactivation hunting and shooting programs.
  • Administer the Hunter Education and Outdoor Heritage Federal Aid grant and provide reports to the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
  • Oversee the safe storage and maintenance of all firearms used for Hunter Education.
  • Teach Hunter Education programs on an as needed basis.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Natural Resource Management, or Environmental Science with a major concentration in Fisheries Science and/or Wildlife Science.
  • Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience in fisheries and/or wildlife education or training. A Master’s degree in Wildlife or Fisheries Management, Education, or other related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
  • Licenses: Must possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey and be authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Skill Set

  • Knowledgeable in the principles, practices, laws and regulations related to recreational hunting, shooting and trapping in New Jersey.
  • Skilled in the use of hunting equipment and tools to include various firearms and ammunition.
  • Working knowledge of the agency's licensing system.

Residency

All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011, have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70).
