Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely operate forklifts to move pipe and materials to and from the production areas, scales, and warehouse.
- Maintain operation of multiple lines, including packaging end product for shipment.
- Read pipe specification sheets to ensure products are made to proper tolerances and specifications and packaging requirements.
- Check product periodically with micrometers, O.D. tapes, tape measures, and visual checks to ensure product stays in proper specifications.
- Start up and shut down an extrusion line.
- Make proper machine adjustments with speed dial controls, heat controllers, and various other controls.
- Observe machine operations to detect product defects or machine malfunctions to ensure a safe working environment.
- Perform minor maintenance such as changing filters, and cleaning up equipment and work areas.
- Absorb and set up machines for product changeovers and machine shut downs.
- Prepare production reports and maintain records of machine settings on appropriate sheets.
- Perform proper quality control tests and measurements and log proper data to a quality control specification sheet.
- Enter all production data on appropriate sheets.
- Properly package finished products and transport them to an outside pad area using a forklift.
- Absorb and assist other operators when needed and work successfully in self-managed work teams.
- Attend required training sessions and wear required safety equipment such as hearing protection, safety glasses, and other safety equipment that might be required for certain jobs.
- Be responsible for training and supervision of temporary workers and new hires.
- Be willing to learn new tasks and take on individual responsibilities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or ninety (90) days experience as operator # 8, demonstration of requisite skills, satisfactory attendance and safety record, and a passing grade to be certified in our Job Certification Program as a operator #8 from a related industry.
- You must be certified through our JCP within 90 days from your hire day.
- Experience with computers and basic keyboarding skills.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rates, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Regularly stands and uses hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Frequently walks, reaches with hands and arms, talks, and hears.
- Occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, climbs stairs, climbs ladders, and works at heights up to 50 feet.
- Lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 70 pounds.
- Works near moving mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
- Exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration.
- Work environment is usually loud.
