About the role
As an Extrusion Operator, you will assist in the operation of all manufacturing process equipment, perform quality inspections, and maintain production workflows. This is a night shift position on a rotating schedule (e.g., 2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 3 days off) from 6:45 AM to 7:00 PM.
Responsibilities
- Assists Extrusion Operators II, III, & IV with order changes and set-ups
- Performs quality inspections and tests
- Cuts rolls, weighs, and prepares roll tickets
- Monitors and measures silo levels and unloading of rail cars
- Prepares production logs, product tags, and time cards as necessary
- Operates scrap grinder and understands the recycle system
- Transports roll stock to the warehouse
- Follows and participates in plant safe housekeeping guidelines to ensure a safe work environment
- Remains compliant with SQF/HACCP requirements as per the location’s written “Food Safety & Quality Policy”
- Regular and punctual attendance
Requirements
- 1 year of manufacturing experience required (training will be provided)
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to print simple sentences and legibly complete reports and time cards
- Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions
- Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance)
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations
Qualifications
- OSHA-approved Clamp Truck Certification
- CPR and First-Aid Certified
- Certificate of Training for Process Safety Management
- Certificate of Training for Fall Restraint System
- May be required to participate in Fire Brigade
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger/handle, and reach with hands and arms
- Frequently required to talk and hear
- Push round rolls weighing 140–600 lbs
- Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration
- Occasionally exposed to humid conditions, high/precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic/flammable/caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock
- Noise level in the work environment is usually very loud
