Overview

To build on a strong foundation of achievement and contribute to the realization of its ambitious institutional goals, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) invites applications for the position of Extra Help - Gameday Guest Services (EH26-032).

What You Will Do

  • Greeting guests and ensuring they have a positive experience for the duration of their visit from the moment they arrive on campus.
  • Be responsible for enhancing the game day experience of Cougars fans.
  • Answer fan questions.
  • Advise fans on game day / event policies (e.g. permitted and prohibited items, concession locations, pregame timeline and events).
  • Work various positions (e.g. ushering, wheelchair escorting if necessary, The Deck entrances).
  • Be generally helpful. Evenings, Weekends, And Some Holidays Are Required.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

  • Anticipate fans’ needs and offer assistance in any way you can especially in helping them find their seats.
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for all fans by understanding and using established processes and rules.
  • Be knowledgeable on the venue (i.e., the Cougar Pavilion, Eddieville, restrooms) and where things are in order to help fans as needed.
  • Ability to make decisions based on situational circumstances.
  • Other duties as assigned to deliver the best fan experience possible. Evenings, Weekends, And Some Holidays Are Required.

About Extra Help Positions

Extra Help job listings typically close three days after the opening date, unless specified in the closing date. Extra Help employees are appointed to fulfill casual or emergent needs within the university. The amount of time for which services are needed is not usually predictable and payment for work performed is on an hourly basis and based on actual hours worked. Workdays and hours may vary according to departmental requirements. Extra Help employees do not receive SIUE benefits, holiday pay or paid sick or vacation leave. Extra Help employees are required by State Universities Civil Service System rules to take a 30-calendar-day break after working 900 hours. At the end of the 30 days, you may begin another 900-hour employment cycle in a new position if available. Working Extra Help will in no way affect any other employment opportunities with SIUE, including your position on and Civil Service register. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment.

Illinois Residency Requirement

Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position. Illinois residency requires proof of a valid Illinois Driver’s License or state of Illinois ID Card. Failure to produce the required documentation within 180 calendar days will result in immediate termination of employment.

Pre-Employment Screening

The screening process will encompass a criminal background check and, where applicable, other background checks such as a drug screen, verification of employment and education or licensure/certification, reference checks, and/or checks with relevant government registries.
