Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences - Meade County

About the Role
The Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences will develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of work based on locally identified needs to improve the quality of living for families and individuals. This role involves planning and implementing educational programs focused on:
- Making healthy choices
- Nurturing families

- Promoting healthy homes and communities
- Accessing nutritious food
- Empowering community leaders
Agents will develop expertise and serve as a resource in family and consumer sciences programming areas, including food and nutrition, family resource management, human development and family relations, health, safety and wellness, leadership development, clothing and textiles, housing and the environment, and home-based and micro-businesses.
This position includes supervisory responsibilities and supports the dissemination of practical information on agriculture, family consumer sciences, 4-H, and community and rural development as outlined in KRS statutes 164.605 to 164.675.
Responsibilities
- Implement educational programs to strengthen families and individuals
- Develop and implement leadership programs, such as Kentucky Extension Homemakers, to build personal and organizational leadership skills
- Communicate orally and in writing with groups, individuals, and through mass media
- Use computers for program delivery and management
- Visit clientele at sites throughout the county, including farms
- Plan and teach educational programs
Requirements
- No set minimum education or related experience requirements; equivalencies may apply (see UK Equivalencies)
- Job-related travel, including overnight stays
- Standing/walking for long periods and handling objects up to 25 lbs.
- National and state criminal background check required
- Clearance from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (no findings of substantiated child abuse or neglect)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Family & Consumer Sciences or related fields, such as:
- Family & Consumer Sciences Education
- Family Sciences, Family Studies, or Child and Family Studies
- Early Childhood Education or Child Development
- Dietetics, Nutrition, or Human Nutrition
- Community Food Services or Food Science
- Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles
- Hospitality, Management and Tourism or Retailing and Tourism Management
- Community & Leadership Development
- Consumer Economics and Family Financial Counseling
- Health Promotions, Health, Society & Populations, or Health Communications
- Leadership for Community Education & Human Learning
- Social Work or Marriage & Family Therapy
- Human Health Sciences or Public Health
- Health & Human Performance / Health Studies or Nursing
- Driver’s License preferred
Schedule
Monday–Friday (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.), with evenings and weekends as needed. Most weeks will exceed 40 hours.
