Extendicare Athabasca Cook/Dietary Aide

Responsibilities

• Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
• Observes time limits for meal serving.
• Maintains foods at proper serving temperature.
• Aids cooks in cleaning and preparing uncooked food such as salads, vegetables, and fruits.
• Prepares simple foods like breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
• Reads and records food and fridge temperatures.
• Cleans plates and trays, loads and operates dishwasher.
• Cleans pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
• Participates in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
• Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.
• Receives and stores food supplies on a weekly basis.
• Cleans and organizes the food storage room on a weekly basis according to schedule.
• Assembles nourishment carts.
• Attends in-service education programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications

• Previous dietary experience preferred in LTC Home.
• 0-1 year(s) of experience.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Read and write English as well as understand simple verbal and written instructions in English.
• Ability to work weekends, days, and evenings as per schedule.
• Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
• Must be able to do moderate to heavy lifting.
• Must be able to work in cold temperatures.
