Description

Special Education Teachers for Extended School Year Prepare and instruct students in small groups and individualized work for reading and math per IEP goals.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to write IEP Goals and Objectives
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles, standards, and strategies for educating children as established by the MA Department of Early Education and Care/DESE.
  • Be familiar with the principles and standards established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (for preschool position).
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of district and school curriculum goals.
  • Create or provide learning experiences that develop students' abilities and require the application of thinking and functional skills.
  • Employ a variety of instructional strategies that consider individual learning styles and performance levels.
  • Absess student learning on a regular basis using multiple forms of formative assessment in order to measure a child's functioning in the relevant developmental domains.
  • Use formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction; provide reports of student progress as needed.
  • Create a classroom-learning environment that is engaging, orderly, secure and appealing for students and in which mutual respect is shown.
  • Communicate student progress and development to parents.
  • Provide written assessments, referrals and evaluations when necessary for students with special needs.
  • Participate in IEP meetings as required.
  • Model learning and behavior consistent with the expectations for students.
  • Attend staff or team meetings and serve on staff committees as necessary.
  • Perform other such duties as assigned.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum and instructional effectiveness for all students.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Build positive relationships with students in support of their academic, functional, and social development.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishments of the students on a regular basis and provide timely progress reports.

Additional Information

  • Master's Degree Preferred in Special Education
  • Experience With ABA Required
  • Appropriate Massachusetts licensure
