About the role
The position involves working with school-age students who have special education needs under an extended school year schedule from July 6-23, 2023.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to due process guidelines and evaluate special education needs using district recommended methods and instruments.
- Facilitate team decisions regarding eligibility and develop and share evaluation plans and reports with parents.
- Develop and maintain Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and attend IEP meetings.
- Provide parents/guardians with Rights and Procedural Safeguards information and notify them of team meetings.
- Develop and share progress reports with parents and communicate regularly about their child’s progress.
- Work with general education teachers to plan and implement curriculum and assessments.
- Support paraprofessionals in implementing IEP goals and provide job performance feedback.
- Maintain and promote confidentiality of student data according to data privacy laws.
- Provide direct instruction and assist students in achieving their IEP goals.
- Collaborate with related service providers and utilize technology strategies/equipment for students.
- Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and administration.
- Bill third parties when necessary and utilize conflict management strategies when needed.
- Attend cluster meetings related to special education.
Qualifications
- Valid Minnesota teaching license in a special education field.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Experience teaching school-age students.
- Ability to work collaboratively and positively with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Knowledge and experience with due process procedures.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience with conflict resolution.
- Training and experience in behavior management and knowledge of crisis response.
