Extended Long Term Substitute (ELTS) Literacy Interventionist - Franklin - 0.5 FTE - 26-27 SY
Annual Salary Minimum: $53,525 (26-27 TE Salary Schedule). Length of Contract: 192 days. Employment Type: Exempt.
About the Role
The Literacy Interventionist provides direct services to students above and below proficiency in reading and literacy. This role identifies areas of need and accelerates learning through targeted interventions, ensuring students achieve at or above grade level. Title I Literacy Interventionists focus on students most at risk of failing in literacy.
The position requires diagnosing reading/literacy needs using screening data and diagnostic tools, delivering intensive interventions in individual or small-group settings, and analyzing data to drive instruction. Additional responsibilities include professional development and leadership to strengthen staff capacity in implementing a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for reading and literacy.
Responsibilities
- Intervention Support:
- Collaborate with school leadership to provide direct literacy services to students above and below proficiency (Title I Interventionists focus on students below proficiency).
- Deliver comprehensive intervention services, including assessment, intensive small-group or individual instruction, progress monitoring, and communication with classroom teachers.
- Provide interventions using culturally and linguistically responsive pedagogy.
- Data and Problem-Solving:
- Collaborate with teams to identify students needing intervention or enrichment using data.
- Use data consistently to measure student response to interventions and evaluate program effectiveness.
- Make data-driven decisions to adjust instructional practices.
- Maintain records of implementation and fidelity.
- Leadership and Collaboration:
- Attend district professional development to stay current on research, intervention strategies, and data use.
- Assist in procuring materials and resources for intervention delivery.
- Participate on the School-based Leadership Team and collaborate with principals and stakeholders (e.g., Program Support Teachers, Instructional Resource Teachers, Learning Coordinators, MTSS support staff).
- Professional Development:
- Assist in identifying and delivering professional development priorities related to MTSS.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (official transcripts required for employment).
- Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) teaching license in Reading (1316 or 5017) for the respective grade level(s). Unlicensed candidates may be considered but must obtain a One-Year License with Stipulations through DPI (hiring by a district is required to apply). The district does not provide financial support for certification programs.
- Expertise and leadership in K-8 literacy.
- Knowledge of Common Core State Standards.
- Ability to implement scientifically research-based interventions and use data-driven decision-making.
- Understanding of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and comprehensive assessment systems.
- Cultural competency in an urban setting.

Preferred: Reading Recovery/DLL certificate.

Working Conditions
- Work may require travel within the district and to off-site meetings.
