About the Role

An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) II works under general supervision and provides nursing care in a hospital setting to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. They are a critical link within the Adult Endoscopy Department, maintaining and modeling nursing practice standards and upholding the nursing code of ethics to ensure the highest quality of safe, patient-centered care. RN II represents the competent nurse who meets baseline expectations while advancing to proficiency, capable of caring for complex patients requiring a high level of technical and clinical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Align behaviors with OU Health values and maintain nursing professional practice standards.
  • Assume responsibility for an assigned patient or group of patients.
  • Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting all changes in physician orders.
  • Assist physicians in patient examinations and perform minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
  • Obtain and monitor physiological data, observe patient manifestations, and intervene as necessary.
  • Administer medications as prescribed and initiate, regulate, and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products.
  • Deliver patient care competently; seek coaching and mentoring as needed.
  • Resolve patient complaints in a timely manner in collaboration with support staff.
  • Inform patients and families of hospital procedures and share care plans during hospitalization and at discharge.
  • Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
  • Foster a growth mindset through mentorship, feedback, and maintaining professional certifications/licensure.
  • Develop a professional career plan with personal and performance goals aligned with enterprise-wide metrics.
  • Foster an inclusive workforce where individual differences are valued and leveraged.
  • Delegate tasks to clinical support staff as needed and interact with families to share care plans.
  • Provide feedback and learning opportunities for others through formal and informal methods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • 3-5 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
  • Specialty certification(s) preferred.
