About the role

This position is a dedicated weekend role for experienced Registered Nurses seeking a consistent weekend schedule while providing exceptional patient care as part of a collaborative healthcare team. The Clinical Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards.

Based on the NMH framework for practice, the registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable for the provision and coordination of clinically competent, evidence-based care for an assigned group of patients, including diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing, the Code of Ethics, and the Nursing Social Policy Statement.

Schedule

• Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
• Saturday: 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
• Sunday: 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Responsibilities

• Advocate:
  • Practices in accordance with the patient-centered care model.
  • Develops an individualized, age-specific, culturally sensitive nursing plan of care based on the nursing process.
  • Incorporates the role of patient advocate into the plan of care.
  • Uses a team approach to develop and achieve daily patient-centered individualized care goals.
  • Acknowledges and values the contributions of the patient’s significant others as part of the plan of care.
  • Identifies potential conflict situations and facilitates resolution using established communication channels.
  • Promotes and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient.

  • Advances clinical expertise through informal and formal continuing education and specialty certification when eligible.

  • Participates in team goal formation, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Delegates and supervises interventions appropriately.
  • Ensures complete, timely, and accurate information during hand-offs.

  • Participates in at least one volunteer initiative annually, either through Northwestern Medicine or independently.

Requirements

• Graduate of an NLN-accredited school/college of nursing.
• Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or higher.
• Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification through the American Heart Association.
• Analytic ability (conceptual and quantitative).
• Strong oral, listening, and written communication skills.
• Strong human relation skills for effective collaboration in difficult situations.
• Proficiency in using a keyboard to enter or retrieve data.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Critical Care experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) highly preferred.
• Experience in a specific clinical area.
• Nursing specialty certification, if eligible.
