Experienced Registered Nurse, 6 West PCU, Neurology Progressive Care Unit, 36 hours, Nights

About the Role

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager/Tertiary Team Leader, the Staff Registered Nurse: Tertiary Care practices within the Lahey Clinic Professional Practice Model, MA Nurse Practice Act, ANA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics, and demonstrates Lahey Clinic’s core values that reflect its Mission. The nurse-patient/family relationship, continuity of care, and accountability are central to delivering individualized high-quality patient care.

The Staff Registered Nurse: Tertiary Care demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide expected standards of care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, spiritual, safety, and age-appropriate considerations of patients. The role includes health maintenance, teaching, counseling, collaborative planning, and restoration of optimal functioning and comfort or dignified death for those served.

The Staff Registered Nurse: Tertiary Care assumes responsibility for the plan of care, has the authority to make decisions, and is held accountable for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The role facilitates coordination of care across the continuum and demonstrates safe practice within the domains of clinical judgment, professional relationships, clinical leadership, and clinical scholarship.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Judgment and Decision Making:
  • Provide safe patient care by demonstrating organizational skills that maintain and coordinate safe delivery of quality care.
  • Develop a culturally competent plan of care identifying patient problems, expected outcomes, and preventative measures.
  • Perform systematic patient and family assessments relevant to practice settings.
  • Deliver care specific to the age of the patient.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care and adapt the plan based on patient/family response.
• Professional Relationship:
  • Establish professional relationships with nurses, physicians, colleagues, patients, and families, integrating the patient’s response and beliefs into the plan of care.
  • Educate patients and families about illness and treatment, including preventative measures.
  • Support Lahey Clinic’s commitment to community-based activities.
• Clinical Leadership:
  • Support the development of others and create a practice climate of responsiveness and learning.
  • Demonstrate professional behavior by adhering to unit policies, practice guidelines, and the ANA Code of Ethics.
  • Demonstrate skills as a responsive team member and role of nurse as teacher.
  • Fulfill role in regulatory compliance and readiness.

• Delegation & Supervision:
  • Delegate and supervise in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act of Massachusetts and ANA Principles of Delegation.
  • Bear full responsibility for appropriate assignment, teaching, directing, supervising, and outcomes of delegation.

Requirements

• Current license to practice professional nursing from the Massachusetts Board of Registration.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• At least one year of experience as a practicing Registered Nurse, preferably in an inpatient setting.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of a state-approved and/or accredited School of Nursing.
• Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
  • Demonstrates necessary clinical skills and technical knowledge to provide care according to Nursing Policy and Procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $95.37 per hour. Actual compensation is determined based on seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, and other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices.
