Experienced Railcar Repair Technician (Travel Required)

Responsibilities

• Must have railcar/tank car repair experience
• Must be open to project-based traveling nationwide
• Internal employees who qualify will receive a pay increase
• Deliver full-service railcar repair and maintenance through a broad North American network of fixed shops and mobile field service teams
• Serve freight and tank car fleets across multiple industries, committed to safety, compliance, quality, and reliable service
• Perform tank car inspections to ensure compliance with FRA, AAR, and customer requirements
• Conduct mechanical repairs to railroad freight cars including tank and hopper cars
• Occasionally perform welding repairs
• Coordinate and complete repairs efficiently within assigned hours
• Maintain work areas in a neat and orderly manner and report potential hazards
• Notify supervisors of materials and equipment needed for job tasks
• Interact well with team members and supervisors
• Meet customer expectations for a best-in-class customer experience
• Accurately complete invoicing, inspection, and work order information
• Participate in safety assessments and equipment inspections
• Follow safety rules and practices
• May be involved in safety committees or initiatives
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Railcar/Tank Car Repair Experience
• Project-Based Traveling Nationwide
• Pay Increase for Internal Employees
• Tank Car Experience Required - Preferably 2 years
• Travel May Be Required
• Tank Qualification Experience Plus
• Supervision Understood and Performed

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Job-Related Knowledge Including Following Written Instructions
• Safe Operation of Machinery Including Large Work Vehicles and Forklifts
• Dependability and Reliability for Scheduled Work Shifts Including Overtime
• Learning Basic Railcar Knowledge
• Basic Hand and Power Tool Proficiency
• Reading Engineering Drawings Ability
• DOT Requirements Passed (Plus)
• Confined Space Entry or Monitoring and Hot Work Permit Creation Ability
• NDT Disciplines and Function Specific Certifications Passed (Within 6-12 Months)
• Welding and Airbrake Test Certifications Obtained (Timeline and Required Tests Dependent on Location)
• Strong Familiarity with AAR Rules and Regulations
• Pass Required Tests Within 6-12 Months
