The Red Cross supports a variety of cultural and community resource groups for employees and volunteers, including the Ability Network, Asian American & Pacific Islander Resource Group, Latino Resource Group, Red Cross PRIDE, Umoja African American Resource Group, Veterans+ Resource Group, and the Women’s Resource Group. Responsibilities

  • Perform blood collection procedures, including allogeneic, autologous, directed, therapeutic, automated red cell, mini-mobile, and platelet apheresis.
  • Ensure the team successfully performs collections that meet patient needs, such as maintaining split rate and right-type mix.
  • Perform standard collection tasks: drive set up/function checks, donor reaction care, collection set labeling, discontinuing (disengagement), post-collection donor care, and post-collection blood processing.
  • Lead day-of-drive teams and perform charge tasks when assigned. May perform competency assessments as necessary or directed.
  • Identify and address site-specific issues, including site maintenance, utility issues, and safety concerns.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum one year of healthcare experience (RN/LPN, EMT, or Medical Assistant) or one year of documented satisfactory performance in a similar role.
  • Ability to work on a team and strong customer service skills, including effective verbal communication and public relations.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Applicable local licensure if required by state directives.
  • Limited travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of phlebotomy experience.
  • 2 years of prior experience in blood collection, donor services, blood banking, or apheresis.

Physical Requirements

  • Operational flexibility to meet sudden and unpredictable needs.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., squat, push, or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs.
  • Good manual dexterity and ability to sit or stand for long periods.
  • Adaptability to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes.
  • Work involves setting up and tearing down mobile blood drive equipment, including pushing carts up to 250 lbs., setting up beds, and handling totes with equipment and snacks.

Schedule

Standard schedule: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
