Experienced Outpatient Medical Record Coder

Position Summary

The Experienced Outpatient Medical Record Coder at Stony Brook Medicine is responsible for selecting and assigning accurate codes from the current version of coding systems including ICD-10 CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes. Duties include assigning codes with modifiers, reviewing medical records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations, and maintaining a working knowledge of relevant laws and industry guidance.

Qualifications

• Required Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree, at least 5 years of outpatient facility coding experience and CCS, CCS-P, or CPC certification
  • In lieu of a degree, at least 8 years of outpatient facility coding experience and CCS, CCS-P, or CPC certification
  • In lieu of a degree, at least 10 years of outpatient facility coding experience
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a non-clinical Health Care related field such as HIM, Health Sciences, or Health Informatics
  • 5 or more years of facility outpatient procedure coding experience
  • Cancer Center injection/infusion coding experience
  • Experience coding emergency room observation encounters
  • Experience coding injections and infusions for facilities
  • Experience with surgical procedure coding of all specialties
