Experienced Manager – Adult Training Services

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Manager to start as soon as possible from 1st October. The appointee will manage two training Hubs delivering skills development sessions for adults with intellectual (learning) disability. This post involves managing a dual staff team of up to 16, including employees, volunteers, and students on practice-based placements (graduate and undergraduate).

Journey Enterprises is an award-winning regional charity providing training services for adults with intellectual (learning) disability, focusing on work skills and independent living skills. We operate four sites in the north east, and the post holder will be responsible for our Acomb and Blyth sites, overseeing the relocation of our Acomb site over the coming 18–24 months. Our service supports 160 adults weekly, aged 18–84, with conditions such as Down’s Syndrome, Williams, Prader-Willi, Sotos, and Smith Magenis.

Responsibilities

  • Manage two training Hubs delivering skills development sessions for adults with intellectual (learning) disability.
  • Oversee a staff team of up to 16, including employees, volunteers, and students on practice-based placements.
  • Deliver support/supervision, appraisals, disciplinaries/grievances, and practice-based observations.
  • Conduct in-service staff training sessions.
  • Manage a devolved budget and apply basic management accounting principles.
  • Oversee the relocation of the Acomb site over the next 18–24 months.

Requirements

  • Training/teaching qualification and experience working with young adults (16–24) or adults (25+). Note: we are not recruiting primary or lower secondary practitioners.
  • Willingness to work towards NVQ5 in Health & Social Care as required by the Health & Social Care Act and local authority contracts.
  • 2+ years’ experience managing staff teams, including support/supervision, appraisals, disciplinaries/grievances, and practice-based observations.
  • Experience delivering in-service staff training sessions.
  • Experience managing a devolved budget and understanding of basic management accounting.
  • Enhanced DBS with full barring check (Adult Services); applicants must be on the DBS Update Service.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Disability-specialist training.
  • Experience delivering grant-aided programmes.
  • Experience working with volunteers or volunteering.
  • Experience supervising undergraduate or graduate students.

Pay

£36,023 to £37,275 per annum (fixed salary).

Schedule

The charity operates Monday–Thursday, 08:30–16:30, and Friday, 08:30–16:00. All staff working six continuous hours must take a half-hour lunch break daily.
