Basic Functions
- Train crew on safe job performance
- Safely navigate in the Intercoastal canal and Mississippi river system
- Supervise daily maintenance and housekeeping of the vessel
- Supervise all barge transfers and fueling operations
- Follow company policies
- Ensure vessel compliance with environmental laws and USCG regulations
- Act as company representative at the dock
- Keep engine room maintenance up-to-date
- In the event of an emergency, act as on-site coordinator until vessel operations arrive
- Keep daily logs while on watch
Qualifications, Competencies and Certification Requirements
- Valid TWIC
- Valid MMC with Inland and Western Rivers endorsement
- Valid USCG medical certificate
- Valid Radar endorsement
- Valid Radio/FCC License
- Valid Drivers License
- Valid Social Security Card
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.
- Must be able to work away from home
- Must be able to read and write English
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must pass a drug and alcohol screen
- Must not be color blind
- Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather
- Cannot have any criminal charges pending or be on probation
Physical Requirements
- Walk as needed on vessel and barge
- Step 2ft vertical and 2ft horizontal
- Climb a 90 degree vertical ladder 25-30 feet
- Grip 50 lbs
- Push, pull and hold 70lbs
- Lift 50 lbs
- Color vision and eyesight sufficient to pass an eye test as required to obtain a merchant mariners credential
- Hearing meeting minimum standards as per USCG requirements
- Speech ability to verbally communicate in English both in delivery and ability to be understood using handheld radios or other devices, as required
- Smell to detect the presence of potentially dangerous vapors
- Pulmonary functions with a minimum score of 75%
- Ability to enter and exit hatches/doorways quickly in case of emergency
- Ability to wear a negative or positive pressure respirator, PVC foul weather gear, personal flotation device, rubber gloves and boots
- Ability to use firefighting/spill containment equipment
