Duties/Responsibilities

  • Collect information on vehicle and equipment history, problem with the vehicle, and/or known maintenance or repairs required.
  • Identifies mechanical problems visually and/or with computer diagnostic equipment.
  • Performs tests on specific parts and systems to determine whether they are operating properly.
  • Examines critical parts and systems using standard checklists.
  • Plans repairs and timetables for completion; provides Shop Manager with time and cost estimates.
  • Order parts as determined.
  • Performs routine and preventative maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups.
  • Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
  • Conducts post-repair and diagnostics and confirms that repairs have been made properly, and that problems have been resolved.

Requirements

  • Experienced heavy equipment mechanic with 3 years experience and expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, scrapers, and compact construction equipment.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic software and service information to identify faults, perform repairs, and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Experienced in reading and interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals while maintaining a safe and productive shop environment.

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle, construction equipment, and small engine maintenance and repairs.
  • Proficient with related computer diagnostic equipment and software.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
  • Ability to read service and repair manuals.
  • Ability to utilize asset tracking software.
  • Ability to perform repairs in a timely fashion.
