Duties/Responsibilities
- Collect information on vehicle and equipment history, problem with the vehicle, and/or known maintenance or repairs required.
- Identifies mechanical problems visually and/or with computer diagnostic equipment.
- Performs tests on specific parts and systems to determine whether they are operating properly.
- Examines critical parts and systems using standard checklists.
- Plans repairs and timetables for completion; provides Shop Manager with time and cost estimates.
- Order parts as determined.
- Performs routine and preventative maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups.
- Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
- Conducts post-repair and diagnostics and confirms that repairs have been made properly, and that problems have been resolved.
Requirements
- Experienced heavy equipment mechanic with 3 years experience and expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, scrapers, and compact construction equipment.
- Proficient in using diagnostic software and service information to identify faults, perform repairs, and minimize equipment downtime.
- Experienced in reading and interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals while maintaining a safe and productive shop environment.
Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle, construction equipment, and small engine maintenance and repairs.
- Proficient with related computer diagnostic equipment and software.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
- Ability to read service and repair manuals.
- Ability to utilize asset tracking software.
- Ability to perform repairs in a timely fashion.
