Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an experienced geotechnical engineer to join our dams and levees engineering practice in Los Angeles, CA or Davis, CA. This position is ideal for a talented, experienced individual interested in contributing to innovative and challenging projects involving design and construction engineering support of dams and appurtenant works, levees and flood control infrastructure, dam/levee safety risk and risk-informed decision making, and geotechnical analysis and design for critical infrastructure.

About the role

  • Supporting dam and levee design projects with task and project-level responsibility for scoping, performing, managing, and delivering multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Preparing and implementing geotechnical site characterization programs.
  • Evaluating geotechnical aspects of projects involving earthen embankments and related infrastructure.
  • Supporting risk analysis, risk-informed decision making, and other risk practices for dams and related infrastructure.
  • Conducting fieldwork, including site inspections for dams, and overnight travel as required.
  • Assisting with preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations and engaging in technical discussions with colleagues and clients.
  • Assisting with proposal development.
  • Supporting practice growth through recruiting, team development, and mentorship.
  • Driving personal, company, or rental vehicles to client or company project sites and other business locations as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field (required).
  • Advanced degree in civil engineering or a related field (preferred).
  • Professional registration (P.E.) (preferred).
  • At least 5 years of related experience (7+ years preferred), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with modeling/design tools such as AutoCAD, Slope/W, and ArcGIS (preferred).
  • Excellent writing and communication skills (required).
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary project teams (required).
  • Regional visibility through involvement in professional associations or trade organizations (preferred).
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel (required).
  • Health & safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.

Pay

Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set, and location. The typical base salary range for this position is:

  • Los Angeles, CA: $101,675 – $152,575 per year
  • Davis, CA: $97,255 – $145,940 per year
