Experienced Floorhands - Permian Basin

About the role

This position involves general upkeep of the rig and drilling floor, including sweeping, shoveling, cleaning, painting, and washing equipment. You will work closely with the crew to maintain a safe and efficient work environment in a heavy industrial setting.

Responsibilities

• Lift and place slips weighing approximately 150 pounds with another person frequently during the work shift.
• Clean and maintain the rig and drilling floor, including painting, washing equipment, and related housekeeping duties.
• Use iron roughneck, slips, and tongs to handle and connect or break sections of drill pipe.
• Assist in rig moves, including rig-up/rig-down, nipple up/down blowout preventers, and general assembly and maintenance.
• Regularly inspect the rig and equipment for safety issues and problems.
• Assist with inspecting, slipping, and cutting drilling line.
• Pick up and lay down tubulars, attach or detach pick-up lines, and handle flare and degasser lines.
• Assist the Motorhand with preventative maintenance, repairs, and off-loading materials, including checking and changing oil and coolant on engines.
• Assist the Derrickhand with maintaining shakers, mud pits, and pumps.
• Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times, including hard hat, safety glasses, coveralls, work gloves, respirator, and hearing protection.
• Inspect safety equipment and PPE for wear and replace as needed.
• Maintain spatial awareness to safely navigate the work environment with moving objects.
• Work in a heavy industrial environment with moving overhead machinery, loud equipment, and hazardous chemicals.
• Take initiative and work independently during downtime.
• Support other crew members by carrying supplies, ensuring safety compliance, and performing additional tasks as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned that may fall outside this job description.

Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for a minimum of 3.5 hours and up to 12 hours without sitting, while wearing steel-toed boots.
• Able to repetitively climb steep stairs and lift/carry 50 pounds independently on uneven surfaces.
• Comfortable working at heights (50 ft. or greater) for extended periods.
• Ability to stay alert and focused for up to 12.5 hours while performing repetitive and routine activities.
• Bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and crawl throughout the work shift.
• Prior experience or ability to use heavy-duty handheld and long-handled tools.
• Demonstrate clear communication skills, including reading, writing, and speaking English, and following verbal/written instructions.
• Clear vision to judge near and far distances for maintaining awareness of work activities.
• Accurate recall over short and long-term memory.
• Ability to work closely with others in confined spaces and potentially live in crew quarters.
• Emphasis on safety for self and others, including coworkers and third parties.
• Willingness to travel and work in remote locations on a rotational schedule of 14 days on / 14 days off, working 12.5-hour shifts (days, nights, weekends, and holidays).
• Willingness to work mandatory and unscheduled overtime with little or no advanced notice.
• Ability to attend and complete classroom training and testing for rig assignment qualification.
• Successfully meet pre-employment testing requirements, including drug/alcohol tests and background checks, with periodic testing during employment.

Qualifications

• Minimum: Six (6) months of stable work history.
• Preferred: Six (6) months of experience working on a similar style drilling rig.
• Preferred: One (1) year of stable related work history (e.g., farming, ranching, construction, heavy equipment, or military service).
• Preferred: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Working Conditions

• Work outdoors for entire shifts in all weather conditions, including precipitation, extreme temperatures (ranging from -40° to 100°F), high wind, and turbulent conditions.
• Exposure to typical conditions of the local rig location (e.g., hot summers with high humidity in southern states, cold winters in northern states).
