Responsibilities

  • Provide law enforcement duties, including protection of citizens and crime prevention, while maintaining security and preserving order.
  • Perform duties of the Deputy Non-Certified if assigned to the jail.
  • Effectively communicate to provide information, direction, mediations, and de-escalate situations and resolve conflicts.
  • Determine when there is reasonable suspicion to detain when probable cause exists to search and arrest, and when appropriate force may be used and to what degree.
  • Subdue resisting suspects using approved techniques of arrest control, defensive tactics, and weapons; resort to the use of hands, feet and other approved weapons in defense of self or others.
  • Purse fleeing suspects.
  • Testify and attend court and speak in other formal settings as necessary.
  • Read, comprehend, prepare, and process legal and non-legal documents.

  • Collaborates effectively with the community and fellow team members, fostering positive partnerships and teamwork.
  • Colorado P.O.S.T. Certification, certification from another state, or the ability to obtain a Provisional License.

Supplemental Information

  • Hiring process may include but is not limited to: Complete online application, Pre-Employment Questionnaire, Entry-level law enforcement written exam (as determined by experience level), Physical fitness test, Lieutenants interview, Full background investigation, Polygraph Exam, Leadership Interview, Written psychological exam, Pre-employment medical exam and drug screen, Final sheriff approval.
  • Applicants hired outside of Colorado are required to provide a Colorado P.O.S.T. Provisional Letter prior to date of hire.
  • Applicants Must Meet All Of The Following: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, Cannot have a felony conviction, No convictions involving domestic violence, No use of illegal drugs within the past 5 years.
  • An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. Successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
  • The Sheriff’s Office prohibits possession of marijuana by employees under any circumstances and expects employees to comply with federal law.
