Experienced ALS Caregiver in Eastside

About the role

Follow the client’s individualized care plan, assisting with daily living activities in the client’s home or care facility. Late-stage ALS experience preferred. Comfort with suctioning, cough assist, feeding tube, BiPAP, ceiling/Hoyer lift, and power wheelchair required. Awake overnight shifts available; delegation training can be provided and paid for.

Responsibilities

• Perform all duties per the client’s individualized care plan as directed by the In-Home Care Supervisor or Manager.
• Assist with all activities of daily living (ADL) as directed by the care plan, including:
  • Chore services: housekeeping
  • Medication assistance (as delegated)
  • Personal care: bathing, showering, toileting, grooming, dressing
  • Meal preparation
  • Shopping and transportation
  • Repositioning/transfers/lifting
  • Standby assistance
  • Companionship
• Communicate with the care management team any changes in client’s condition, requests for scope of care outside of the individualized care plan, or requests from client for services outside of scope of license or credentials.
• Provide emotional and social support as required by client preference or as directed by the individualized care plan.
• Actively engage clients to promote independence and maintain dignity while performing necessary ADLs.
• Accurately maintain client records in a timely manner per company policy, including documentation of medication distribution, leisure activities, reportable incidents, client observations, and changes to health or emotional condition.
• Immediately report all changes in condition to the Client Care Manager and care management team.
• Ensure the client’s environment remains safe, clean, and orderly.
• Perform general housekeeping duties and maintain cleaning schedules for client’s laundry, bedrooms, dining area, living space, bathrooms, kitchen, and other areas as directed.
• Safely transport clients to and from appointments, errands, activities, etc. as directed by the plan of care.
• Assist clients with ambulation and mobility by safely assisting with transfers, including in and out of bed, chairs, wheelchairs, and standby assistance.
• Adhere to proper safety protocols and company procedures in emergency situations.
• Assist client with physical therapy activities as directed by the plan of care.
• Respond promptly and positively to client requests for assistance.
• Provide excellent hands-on care and bedside manner.
• Regularly and constantly report to all scheduled shifts and accurately record all time worked via Telephony or Clear Care phone applications.
• Conduct self professionally and knowledgeably while representing Fedelta Home Care.
• Maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive information and proprietary company information; adhere to HIPAA privacy practices.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism in conduct and communication with team members, clients, and families.

Requirements

• Strong time management skills, interpersonal skills, patience, listening skills, and knowledge of generally accepted care standards.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, through in-person, phone, email, and text messages.
• Demonstrated experience and tact in communicating with diverse populations, recognizing and understanding differences, needs, experiences, values, lifestyles, and ages of the populations served.
• Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and customer service standards in stressful situations.
• Regular local travel and reliable transportation to assigned client locations.

Education and Experience

• Requires Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Home Care Aide (HCA), Home Health Aide (HHA), or Nursing Assistant Registered (NAR).
• Minimum of six months industry-related experience.

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations

• Current Washington State CNA, HCA, HHA, or NAR credential in good standing required, or ability to obtain required certification within timelines established by Washington State regulations, including Chapter 246-980 WAC for Home Care Aide certification requirements.
• RN Delegation certification strongly preferred, but not required.
• Valid Washington State driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and proof of current auto insurance required for employees who operate a vehicle while performing duties on behalf of Fedelta Home Care.
• Must successfully complete all pre-employment and ongoing background check requirements in accordance with state regulations and company policy.

Computer Skills

• Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Experience with or technical aptitude to proficiently use health care programs such as WellSky Personal Care.

Physical Demands

• Work is typically moderate; frequently required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
• Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds when assisting with direct patient care.
• May seldom be required to lift and/or move more than 100 pounds assisted when providing direct patient care.
• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, lift, balance, use hands to finger, handle, grasp, or feel; talk and hear; bend and reach with hands and arms; and use repetitive motion of wrists, hands and/or fingers.
• Occasionally required to climb ladders or steps, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Regularly exposed to both inside and outside environmental conditions while conducting home visits and traveling between locations.
• May occasionally be exposed to atmospheric conditions during in-home visits such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, or poor ventilation.
• May be exposed to infectious diseases.
• Noise level in the work environment is low and typical of a traditional home or office environment.
