Expanded Learning Program Associate (Part Time), Middle School

About the role

The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P) provides state funding for after-school and summer-school enrichment programs for transitional kindergarten through eighth grade. “Expanded learning” includes before-school, after-school, summer, or intersession programs that focus on developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of pupils through hands-on, engaging learning experiences. The ELO-P Associate will supervise students and support the operations of the after-school, summer-school, and intersession program days, helping to provide high-quality expanded programming beyond the traditional school day.

Reporting to the ELO Program Director and working closely with the Regional Associate Director of Expanded Learning, the ELO-P Associate will supervise students, lead after-school clubs, support summer-school and intersession days, and manage family communication and operational tasks such as daily attendance, enrollment, and fiscal compliance.

Responsibilities

• Office & Operations Support (80% of time)
  • Manage after-school and summer-school inventory of office supplies, textbooks, curriculum, and other materials.
  • Serve as the point person for first aid and student medication.
  • Track and process daily student attendance accurately.
  • Act as the primary customer service contact for family questions.
  • Maintain complete and accurate student records; coordinate with the school front office for family information updates.
  • Organize and process all incoming applications and enrollment paperwork for after-school and summer-school programs.
  • Run the YMCA lottery each spring for the following year’s summer-school and after-school program.
  • Draft and review parent communication in English and Spanish.
  • Support the implementation of school safety plans and procedures.
  • Assist with on-campus and off-campus school events, including student field trips.
  • Assist with other tasks and projects as assigned.
• After-School & Intersession Student Supervision (20% of time)
  • Support the ELO Director to create a joyful learning environment.
  • Supervise students 2–3 hours per day during after-school hours.
  • Supervise students 5–6 hours per day during intersession days (e.g., summer school/camp).
  • Coordinate and participate in student activities for intersession days (e.g., talent shows, games, field days).
  • Attend after-school and summer program field trips.

Requirements

• High school diploma required.
• Minimum 1 year of work experience; 2 or more years strongly preferred.
• Prior experience working in a school-based setting.
• Experience with student supervision, operations, or customer service.
• Bilingual (Spanish) or proficiency in a language spoken by the communities served is highly preferred.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Drive.
• Knowledge of the San Francisco community is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a team, especially with parents and community members.
• Ability to self-direct, prioritize, and multi-task among competing goals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with keen attention to detail.

Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands

• Physical: Ability to navigate office and school campuses, hold meetings in different spaces, walk, sit, and stand for long periods, and actively converse with others. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment (1–20 lbs). Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
• Mental: Ability to handle stress of deadlines and normal work standards, analyze problems, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods, read, calculate, perform routine math, and memorize/recall objects and people.
• Environmental: Office and/or classroom environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Occasional exposure to classroom/school environments.

Schedule

This is a part-time, non-exempt position on a full-year calendar cycle, based on the regional calendar and time-off policy.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $28.37 - $33.69 per hour.
