Exercise Physiologist

About the Role

The Exercise Physiologist utilizes therapeutic communication in daily practice, maintains a safe therapeutic environment, and participates in performance improvement activities. Provides care and coordinates participation that fosters the goals of the hospital's mission and vision statement. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for patient populations served in cardiac rehab/healthy heart.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, evaluate, monitor, and teach exercise programs for cardiac and pulmonary patients in collaboration with physicians and staff.
• Perform exit interviews and assist in discharge planning of patients.
• Demonstrate ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the competency validation checklist(s).
• Assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs and apply knowledge of growth and development principles.
• Ensure patient privacy and confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI).
• Assess patients' and families' ability to learn and incorporate teaching throughout the program and in preparation for discharge.
• Demonstrate critical thinking skills and promote customer service initiatives.
• Exhibit teamwork and complete mandatory education.
• Comply with hospital policies, procedures, and patient safety initiatives.

Requirements

• 3 years of cardiac/pulmonary rehab experience (Preferred).
• Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field (Required).
• Master’s degree in Exercise Science or related field (Preferred).
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS & ACLS certification (Required).
• ACSM Exercise Specialist/Health Fitness Instructor certification (Preferred).
