Executive Vice President, Revenue Optimization

About the Role

National executive oversight of developing, planning, organizing, and implementing current and future strategies to bill customers, process payments, minimize bad debt, improve cash flow, optimize receivables, and manage the overall health of the company’s receivables. This leader will provide executive oversight to improve processes related to revenue cycle functions, including front office policies, billing, collections, accounts receivables, and financial planning for patients. The role involves working with assigned staff and specialty hospital, ASC, and clinic business offices to meet strategic revenue cycle performance goals. This position will create and update written guidelines, policies, and procedures based on ongoing analysis of work processes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategic plans and programs for the Revenue Cycle team, ensuring objectives are properly defined and established.
  • Create and implement policies, guidelines, and procedures while ensuring consistent company-wide adoption.
  • Ensure operating expenses remain within budget limits and fiscal guidelines.
  • Provide projections and reports for budget development and management, including monthly reports for forecasting.
  • Monitor timeliness and effectiveness of department activities, ensuring outstanding patient accounts and receivables are within agreed-upon limits and bad debt is within budgeted targets.
  • Oversee collection efforts and maintain current insurance billings within established timeframes.
  • Enhance workflow processes to achieve consistency in critical success factors and maximize utilization of assets and people resources.
  • Lead integration efforts for new markets or business units within existing markets.
  • Establish effective communication strategies for providers to understand revenue optimization processes.
  • Control Revenue Cycle processes through Performance Metrics and Standards, using national benchmarking to measure performance.
  • Regularly review team performance to ensure metrics and standards meet pre-established goals.
  • Consolidate performance standard reports to monitor progress of initiatives.
  • Design and develop the organizational structure for the Revenue Cycle team and staff accordingly.
  • Conduct regular meetings to ensure adherence to Revenue Cycle plans, programs, and project deadlines.
  • Implement a "Performance Improvement Program" to manage and mentor staff.
  • Develop team performance measures and evaluate performance regularly, including during annual reviews.
  • Create training programs for continuous staff development.
  • Manage patient services and billing staff in handling patient relations.
  • Resolve complex patient complaints and compliance issues in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Develop plans and programs with CORE leaders to monitor patient relations through regular satisfaction surveys.
  • Ensure HIPAA Notices of Privacy Practices are displayed and records are stored securely in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field (required). Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in revenue cycle management, with 5+ years in hands-on revenue cycle leadership at a VP level or higher.
  • 10+ years of increasing executive responsibility with proven results in large, multispecialty physician practices across multiple locations.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge of revenue cycle management in specialty or private practice billing and scheduling.
  • Strong understanding of patient access and scheduling policies, including best practices and standards.
  • Demonstrated understanding of healthcare market dynamics, trends, and their impact on physician practice management.
  • Experience with workflow management, service line development, and operationalization.
  • Strong background in financial management, including knowledge of complex reimbursement structures and governmental billing regulations.
  • Proven track record of developing, coaching, and mentoring high-performing teams in a technology-enabled business across multiple locations.
  • Superior judgment, negotiation, and decision-making skills with a high level of professional integrity.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills to translate strategic vision into operational models.
  • Proficiency in practice management billing and scheduling systems.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills, comfortable facilitating discussions amid diverse perspectives.
  • Ability to encourage motivation, innovation, and high performance.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook) and practice management systems.

Work Environment

  • Normal office environment.
  • Some travel required for evaluating and managing HOPCo-managed clients.

Physical & Mental Demands

  • Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment.
  • Some bending and stretching required.
  • Manual dexterity for using a calculator and computer keyboard.
