About the role
The Executive Team Leader General Merchandise and Food Sales (Assistant Store Manager) role at Target is responsible for driving total store sales, managing operations, and ensuring a consistent and food-safe experience for guests. This role requires a strong understanding of retail business fundamentals, operations, and the ability to manage a team effectively.
Responsibilities
- Drive total store sales and understand your role in sales growth
- Manage Food & Beverage, food services, inbound, outbound, replenishment, inventory accuracy, presentation, pricing and promotional signing processes for all GM areas of the store
- Manage a team of experts in operations, accuracy and efficiency
- Enable efficient delivery to our guests by leading pick, pack and ship fulfillment work (if applicable)
- Develop a strategy and utilize workload planning tools to complete all scheduled workload ensuring guest readiness
- Conduct regular check-ins with your team to ensure task completion and workload management
- Manage GM backroom and sales floor areas, review reporting to identify gaps and develop plans to resolve
- Oversee GM Team Leaders workload planning including transitions, revisions, salesplans for all GM areas
- Drive fulfillment sales by leading the Fulfillment team to fulfill orders accurately and efficiently and deliver on guest promises
- Lead a culture centered in food safety; train, validate, and coach team to execute food safety standards and cleaning routines
- Lead an efficient operation to fund the sales culture
- Oversee Food & Beverage Team Leader’s workload planning including transitions, revisions, salesplans, sampling and promotions
- Create a guest-obsessed culture that prioritizes the guest experience and achieves store sales goals
- Know and assess the competition; leverage guest insights and feedback to drive business objectives
- Work a flexible schedule that aligns with guest and business needs (including early morning, evening, overnight shifts and weekends)
- Ensure product availability, freshness, and accurate pricing on the sales floor with minimal disruption to guests
- Assess GM and Food & Beverage backroom and sales floor areas, walk Food & Beverage Standards to assess priorities, review GM/Food reporting to identify gaps and develop plans to resolve
- Plan, lead, and follow-up on organizational and operational changes
- Anticipate and identify unique store trends
- Develop and coach your team to elevate their skills and expertise
- Establish a culture of accountability through clear expectations and performance management; actively develop, coach, and train your team; anticipate staffing needs, talent plan, and recruit – both long and short term
- Provide service and a shopping experience that meets guest needs
- Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance; lead team to work in the same way and hold others accountable to this commitment
- Follow safe and secure training and processes as a key carrier
- Address store needs (emergency, regulatory visits, etc.)
Requirements
- A 4 year degree or equivalent experience
- Strong interest and knowledge of the Food & Beverage business
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong business acumen
- Comfortable dealing with ambiguity
- Manage conflict, lead and hold others accountable
- Relate well with and interact with all levels of the organization
- Strong cognitive skills, including problem analysis, decision making, financial and quantitative analysis
- Learn and adapt to current technology needs
- Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently
Qualifications
- Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues
- Interpret instructions, reports, and information
- Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 40 pounds
- Accurately handle cash register operations
- Climb up and down ladders
- Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends and holidays) and regular attendance necessary
Skills
- Knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience building and managing a guest-first culture on your team
- Knowledge of retail business fundamentals including: department sales trends, inventory management, freshness and quality, guest shopping patterns, pricing and promotions strategies
- Experience in setting and planning department(s) monthly/quarterly workload to support business priorities and managing a team to deliver on sales goals
- Experience in the competition; leveraging insights to drive business objectives
- Experience managing a team of hourly team members and leaders and creating business-specific strategies and goals
- Skills in recruiting, selecting, and talent management of hourly team members and leaders

Pay
The pay range for this role is $64,000.00 - $128,000.00, based on several factors including labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications.
Schedule
The role requires a flexible schedule that aligns with guest and business needs, including early morning, evening, overnight shifts, and weekends.
