About the role

As a Political Executive Producer at Spectrum News, you’ll own the vision for the newscast, leading your team through story creation to produce compelling, timely, and accurate newscasts. You’ll build a positive team culture and generate story ideas reflecting your local community.

Responsibilities

• Lead your team through story creation to produce compelling, timely, and accurate newscasts.
• Build a positive team culture.
• Generate story ideas that reflect your local community.
• Make data-informed decisions to connect your audience with the stories that matter.
• Unite a team of storytellers to deliver clear, compelling coverage of political events and issues.
• Oversight of projects from conception to completion, with an emphasis on breaking political news and special programming focused on government and elections.
• Hands-on management and training initiatives, including advanced techniques for political graphics, camera work, and cross-newsroom collaboration to strengthen political reporting.

Requirements

• Experience: Producing and executive producing in television news - 5+ years, Management - 2+ years.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field, or comparable television work experience.
• Technical Skills: Preferred working knowledge of general computer software.
• Skills: Basic editing and ability to effectively train others.
• Travel: Must be open to travel to discover the important stories in your neighborhood and willing to interact with the community.

Qualifications

• Advanced understanding of political analysis, election coverage, and local policy impacts.
• Working knowledge of newsroom software and basic non-linear editing systems.
• May be required to lift up to five pounds.
• Works different shifts and be flexible with schedule changes.
