About the Role
Supervises and controls the labor and costs of the housekeeping department. Maintains clean guest/public areas at all times. Provides excellent guest service in an efficient, courteous, professional manner; following LBA standards of friendly hospitality while adhering to guidelines and procedures.
Character traits of honesty and trustworthiness are essential to this position and must be displayed at all times. Per company policy, potential associates must pass appropriate security clearances.
Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate the activities of the Housekeeping Team through daily shift meetings and monthly department meetings, including maintaining agendas and sign-in sheets.
- Train new housekeeping associates, provide ongoing coaching, and document disciplinary actions. Assist with interviewing and hiring for housekeeping and laundry departments.
- Inspect all areas of the hotel: rooms, public spaces, back of the house, and grounds to ensure sanitation, brand standards, and health and safety requirements are met.
- Maintain necessary items for effective operation of housekeeping and laundry departments, including guest loaned items (e.g., roll-aways, cribs, microwaves, refrigerators) through monthly inventories, proper ordering, receiving, and supply maintenance.
- Log, code, file, and process invoices for payment, and ensure all equipment (e.g., vacuums, laundry equipment, carts) is in proper working order.
- Oversee room key controls to ensure safety and security of guests and associates.
- Present training resources, including brand and vendor training, for continuous education of housekeeping staff.
- Schedule and work within the designated labor model while ensuring staff adhere to guest privacy policies.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Department to initiate maintenance requests promptly and maintain the property in like-new condition.
- Perform other duties as assigned, provided the associate is capable.
Requirements
- One year of experience supervising at least 3 associates.
- Three years of housekeeping experience in lodging, housing, hotels, hospitals, or care facilities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Qualifications
- Ability to perform major life activities: standing, lifting, bending, learning, reading, concentrating, thinking, and communicating.
- Ability to push or pull 60 pounds unassisted and lift and/or carry 30 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to stand for eight hours, bend, stretch, reach, crawl, and kneel.
- Ability to see and hear, and communicate effectively with associates and guests.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Skills
Knowledge
- Supervising and managing staff techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of materials, supplies, and equipment used in the housekeeping department.
- Entire property, staff, services, hours of operations, room types, locations, rates, and discounts.
- Safety and security measures; ability to report or correct hazardous conditions immediately.
Abilities
- Multi-task while remaining service-centric.
- Effectively communicate with guests and co-workers via messages and communication log books.
- Assist guests with issues professionally while maintaining a hospitable and caring attitude.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and department heads.
- Learn and use computer systems necessary for daily tasks (e.g., Quore, Hotel Effectiveness).
- Exercise discretion to maintain guest privacy.
Management & Technical Skills
- Follow and manage using LBA procedures and policies.
- Organized to maintain logs, bibles, checklists, and inventories as scheduled.
- Basic computer skills: pull reports, break out house, check house inventory.
- Management skills: interview, train, coach, motivate, counsel, discipline, and termination process.
- Payroll: input payroll, store timecards, and maintain weekly reports.
Working Conditions
- Physical presence at the hotel is required; not conducive to telecommuting or remote work.
- Standing and walking for long periods while maintaining a friendly, professional image.
- May be required to work any day/shift, including weekends.
- Periodic overnight travel may be required.
