About the Role

The Executive Director will lead the planning and strategic execution of fundraising efforts that support current programming, as well as near-term plans for a transformational capital project and significantly expanded programming. The Colby College Museum of Art, including the Lunder Institute of American Art, continues to be one of the College’s greatest assets. As one of the best college art museums in the country, the Colby College Museum of Art is renowned in the fields of American art and contemporary art. It remains at the forefront of its peers through an incredible collection, ground-breaking exhibitions, unique partnerships, and a deep commitment to the communities it serves.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and strategic execution of fundraising efforts that support current programming, as well as near-term plans for a transformational capital project and significantly expanded programming.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies and plans to secure major and principal gifts.
  • Manage and motivate a team of advancement professionals to achieve fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, board members, and community leaders.
  • Represent the museum at events and meetings to build visibility and support for the organization.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of donor stewardship initiatives to ensure long-term relationships with donors.
  • Work closely with the Carolyn Muzzy Director of the Museum, Jacqueline Terrassa, and the Museum Board of Governors to plan future growth opportunities for both capital projects and enhanced programming.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in fundraising and campaign oversight, preferably with experience or familiarity with art and art communities.
  • Demonstrated success leading a comprehensive advancement program of similar scope and complexity.
  • A compelling combination of fundraising, campaign oversight, and program/personnel leadership experience and achievement.
  • Outstanding organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience initiating and closing major and principal gifts and leading a high-level fundraising initiative.
  • A personal track record of considerable success cultivating major and principal gifts.
  • A record of success leading a comprehensive advancement program of similar scope and complexity.
  • A champion of the arts and understanding and embodying institutional values of honesty, integrity, and personal responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., museum studies, public administration, or related field).
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate a team of advancement professionals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and communities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of fundraising techniques and strategies.

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $150,000, commensurate with experience. The exact salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is full-time, Monday through Friday, with some evening and weekend events as needed.
