About the role

Gilead Sciences is seeking an Executive Director, Clinical Development (Inflammation & Immunology) to lead the clinical development vision and strategy for a complex asset or portfolio within Inflammation and Immunology. This role involves defining how clinical evidence supports regulatory approval and long-term lifecycle value, shaping strategic decisions across multiple indications and disease areas, ensuring alignment between clinical strategy, regulatory objectives, and portfolio priorities, and leading cross-functional execution at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the clinical development vision and strategy for a complex asset or portfolio within Inflammation and Immunology
  • Define how clinical evidence supports regulatory approval and long-term lifecycle value
  • Own development of the Target Product Profile (TPP) and Clinical Development Plan (CDP)
  • Shape strategic decisions across multiple indications and disease areas
  • Ensure alignment between clinical strategy, regulatory objectives, and portfolio priorities
  • Operate as a Development and Evidence Team Lead (DETL) or oversee DETLs, driving execution across a highly matrixed organization
  • Direct cross-functional teams spanning clinical, regulatory, safety, biometrics, and medical affairs
  • Partner closely with internal governance bodies and enterprise leadership
  • Ensure delivery of key milestones across study design, execution, and reporting
  • Oversee end-to-end clinical trial delivery
  • Be accountable for the successful design, conduct, and reporting of clinical trials across the asset lifecycle
  • Provide leadership for protocol design, study oversight, and medical monitoring
  • Ensure high-quality evidence generation aligned with registrational requirements
  • Oversee data review, interpretation, and communication of results
  • Represent the program externally and with regulators
  • Lead interactions with global health authorities
  • Present data at scientific congresses and investigator meetings
  • Contribute to publications and external scientific engagement
  • Develop relationships with key opinion leaders and collaborators
  • Contribute to disease area and portfolio strategy evolution
  • Support business development evaluations when applicable

Requirements

MD or DO with 8+ years of clinical, scientific or drug development experience in biopharma. Board certification in hematology or rheumatology preferred. Experience in immunology and/or benign hematology clinical trials. Demonstrated leadership of complex, cross-functional drug development programs. Prior experience interacting with global regulatory authorities. Proven success influencing senior leadership and governance forums. Previous line management experience, including leading teams and developing talent. Strong track record of delivering complex clinical strategies and execution at scale. Exceptional communication skills with ability to translate complex science into strategic decisions. Experience managing external partnerships and collaborations.

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $349,010.00 - $451,660.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. Actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
