About The Organization Bike-Walk Alliance of New Hampshire (BWANH) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organisation focused on bike-pedestrian advocacy, education, safety and active transportation across New Hampshire. Founded in 2004, BWANH works with state and regional agencies, municipalities, schools and national organisations to make New Hampshire safer for people who bike, walk and use other forms of active transportation. The organisation also provides information, training, resources, fiscal sponsorship and advocacy support to bike-walk groups across the state. BWANH has played an active role in advancing transportation policy in New Hampshire, including its involvement in the passage of the state's "3-Foot-Plus" law in 2008 and its work opposing HB1703 in 2026. The Role BWANH is seeking a part-time Executive Director to lead the organisation and work closely with its volunteer Board of Directors, program-area committees and other volunteers. The Executive Director will oversee strategic planning, fundraising, communications, financial operations, advocacy, events and day-to-day organisational activities. The role provides an opportunity to shape BWANH's staffing model, organisational development and statewide impact. Key Responsibilities Strategy & Organisational Leadership Work with the Board of Directors to develop and implement annual work plans supporting strategic goals.Help shape a staffing model that meets the needs of both the Executive Director and BWANH's organisational objectives.Supervise part-time employees and contractors, including the bookkeeper and potentially an office manager and outreach/communications coordinator. Fundraising & Financial Management Work with the Board to develop and implement a fundraising and development plan.Support development of an enhanced organisational budget covering staffing and programme expenses.Work with the Board to revise BWANH's financial supporter model to increase reach and impact.Oversee financial operations. Communications & Marketing Coordinate development and implementation of a communications and marketing plan in consultation with the Board.Develop marketing strategies to increase BWANH's visibility, supporter engagement and statewide impact.Oversee the website, email newsletters, social media and online supporter engagement.Create and manage content for programmes, events, advocacy initiatives, fundraising campaigns and outreach. Organisational Administration Oversee the supporter and donor database, email lists, electronic and hard-copy filing, invoicing and communications with members and the public.Manage other organisational tasks necessary to support BWANH's operations. Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement Establish and maintain relationships with policymakers, media, the public, partner organisations, sponsors and community groups.Support state-level advocacy efforts and related committees.Represent BWANH in public forums, meetings and other relevant activities. Events & Programmes Oversee event planning and management.Lead statewide Bike Month activities in May.Lead Pedestrian Safety Month activities in October.Support programme and event initiatives across the state. Board Support Work with the Board President on meeting agendas.Ensure Board materials are distributed.Support the Secretary in preparing and submitting meeting minutes.Attend Board and committee meetings.Help develop agendas and prepare content when necessary. Qualifications Self-starter with strong initiative and independence.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.Solid computer skills.Business or nonprofit programme management experience.College degree or equivalent. Preferred Experience Experience in one or more of the following areas is a plus: Public advocacy.Nonprofit fundraising.Nonprofit management.Public speaking and media relations.Public forums, events and providing testimony.Event planning and organisational coordination.Passion for bicycling and/or walking.Knowledge of bicycle and pedestrian safety issues. Work Arrangement The role is primarily remote and should be based in or near New Hampshire. The Executive Director will occasionally work from BWANH's Concord office and travel regularly throughout the state for meetings and events, primarily in the Concord area. Position Structure The current Executive Director works approximately 30 hours per week and is supported by a contract bookkeeper. Historically, the role has also been structured around fewer Executive Director hours with support from a part-time operations manager and communications coordinator. Depending on the candidate's skills and interests, the Executive Director position may be combined with one or both related roles.
