Executive Chef - Birdwood Mansion
About the role
Boar’s Head Resort is seeking an experienced, hands-on Executive Chef to lead the culinary experience at Birdwood Mansion. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for daily dining, private events, catering, banquets, food quality, and the performance of the culinary and stewarding teams. The Executive Chef will work closely with the Director of Residence and Dining Room team and is expected to be actively involved in service. At Birdwood Mansion, the Executive Chef plays an important role in creating a personalized luxury experience where quality, consistency, attention to detail, and thoughtful service matter every day. The position supports both Forbes Travel Guide and Four Diamond service expectations. Location: Charlottesville, Virginia. Property: Birdwood Mansion at Boar’s Head Resort. Reports To: Director of Residence.
Responsibilities
- Develop and update seasonal menus.
- Oversee daily culinary operations, catering, banquets, and special events.
- Maintain recipes, culinary standards, food quality, and presentation.
- Lead, coach, schedule, and develop the culinary and stewarding teams.
- Manage food cost, labor, payroll, inventory, purchasing, and forecasting.
- Partner closely with the Dining Room team to deliver a polished, high-touch guest experience.
- Remain visible and hands-on during service and adjust operations as business needs change.
Requirements
- Progressive culinary leadership experience in a luxury hotel, resort, fine-dining restaurant, private club, or similar high-service environment.
- Strong experience with menu development, dining service, catering, banquets, and special events.
- Proven experience leading culinary teams and managing kitchen operations.
- Strong understanding of food and labor cost, budgeting, inventory, purchasing, and forecasting.
- A visible, hands-on leadership style with strong communication and guest-service skills.
- Ability to work a flexible hospitality schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
