About the role
BIC is both a law enforcement and regulatory agency formed in 1996 to regulate the commercial garbage collection industry and public wholesale markets in NYC. The Executive Agency Counsel will conduct investigations, make recommendations, draft decisions, and provide legal advice and support.
Responsibilities
- Conducting sworn interviews of and engaging in other direct contact with applicants and related individuals
- Drafting document requests and subpoenas
- Researching and analyzing applicable law and formulating recommendations on legal, legislative, and policy issues
- Conducting settlement negotiations and hearings related to administrative violations and other issues
- Working collaboratively with the Investigations Unit and Audit Unit
- Collaborating with other law enforcement agencies on criminal investigations
- Collaborating with the NYC Law Department on litigation matters involving the agency
Requirements
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- Four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience, eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys
- Must remain a Member of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment
Qualifications
- Excellent writing, legal research, analytical, and communication skills
- Litigation experience (witness examination skills preferred)
- Self-motivated, able to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
